Robert F. Kennedy: On the Mindless Menace of Violence

It has been a violent summer. The news from Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Iraq, and Ferguson Missouri all seethes with anger, frustration and hatred.   While there is nothing new about any of this, ancient resentments mixed with modern weapons seem to be a particularly bad combination. As I thought about this I remembered the response of Robert Kennedy to the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968. Kennedy’s comments the night King was killed are shown in the video below. The second clip includes a recording of a more formal speech he gave the next day On the Mindless Means of Violence.   Both are worth watching and listening to in the summer of 2014 and require no additional commentary or explanation from me.
